About Matt
Matt Fowles is the chief executive of Fowles Wine at Avenel in Victoria’s Strathbogie Ranges. Together with his wife Luise and their daughters Lilli, Mathilda and Ella, Matt manages 145 hectares of cool-climate vineyards producing a wide range of varietals, from riesling and chardonnay to pinot noir and shiraz. Guided by the philosophy of “farming in nature’s image,” Matt embraces biodiversity and sustainable practices on the property. In a groundbreaking initiative, Matt partnered with the University of New England to research insect-eating micro-bats as a natural alternative to chemical pest control. Fowles Wine was a finalist in The Weekly Times Coles 2024 Farmer of the Year awards.
