About Charles
Charles' journey began with his studies in viticulture at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. This formative experience was the cornerstone of a career that led him to explore vineyards and wineries across the globe. From Kanonkop - South Africa to Craggy Range - New Zealand, and the diverse terroirs of DuMol Wines in California, Weingut Von Buhl - Germany, Franz Hirtzberger - Austria and Philip Shaw and Mayfield Vineyard - Australia, Charles immersed himself in the art of viticulture, gathering knowledge and refining his craft. He was co-owner of Mayfield and acted as Director, GM and Viticulturist looking after all business things from export markets, domestic and distribution partnerships.
Over the years, his dedication and expertise have garnered recognition, including prestigious titles such as:
- “Viticulturist of the Year” in Central NSW,
- Awarded the “Award for Excellence in Technology” & Runner up as Australian farmer of the year
- Top 50 Young Gun of Viticulture in Australia ‘20 and ‘21.
Charles has been involved as a consultant from the beginning of Bioscout 8 years ago and was the first commercial vineyard to run the Bioscout units version 1, a lot of the dashboard and functionality came from his use of the functions all those years ago. Leafscout was another challenge he gave the design team and came from many hours spent in tractors spraying and wanting to challenge the idea of spraying more after rain events.
